Bank of Bhutan

Digital Fortress for Largest Commercial Bank in Bhutan

Business Challenge

The Bank of Bhutan required a multi-disciplinary system design and implementation (Power, Captive Power, HVAC, Security Solution, Communication, Data Network, and a Tier III Data Centre) for their head office building of 8 floors, situated in the capital city of Thimphu. The highly prestigious work needed completion within 8 months from its inception as the building housed critical banking operations. Bhutan, a emerging country, doesn’t have enough skilled resources, required to complete the deliverables, therefore material and resources sourced from across the country to the project site. The local implementing partners needed a global expertise to augment their capability, erstwhile resulting in wasted hours and money required for the aggressive deadline of 8 months.

Proposed Solution

A new technology, building information modeling highlighted the physical and functional characteristics of the facility in a digital representation. The 3D depiction prepared the team to spot any major roadblock in the completion of the project. The HVAC heating section was a big concern due to the weather in Thimphu, which was allayed by low OPEX based technical solution by Hitachi product line. The security systems such as surveillance, access control, fire detection, and fire alarm deployed in multiple stages covering the entire data center and building. A dedicated control room designed manned by experts to ensure 24/7 monitoring. The deployed systems backed by multi-layer comprehensive AMC plan for continuity of business operations.

Result

The multi-disciplinary system design and implementation completed in the required time without any hindrance to the critical business operations. The data network allowed for a collaborative work environment among the different sections of the bank. The managed security solutions provided a robust end-protection to secure all connected devices and 24/7 access control. The Tier III data center kept the data safe and secure from any unauthorized access and delivered continuous business operations due to the usage of alternative sources of power supply to its IT components.
